Cactus at Linda's Place

Oil on canvas 16"x20"

I wanted to show the progression of this piece, which was started very quickly and loosely. As the painting progressed, I slowed down quite a bit and became much more deliberate with the brushwork. Bad photos but you get the idea. Painted mostly from a reference photo taken at a friends property in Montell, Texas but improvised quite a bit as well.

Sunset in the Bend

 Oil on panel, 6"x6"

I made a few adjustments to this piece and I can't say it's any better than it was but it is different.  I was searching for an ethereal feel to this piece, not so much heavenly but light filled. It's a small piece so I will call it done and move on.

Oil on panel, 8"x10"

Another scene from Big Bend National Park.

A Touch of Green on the Arroyo

Oil on canvas, 24"x36"

This is a scene along an arroyo in Big Bend National Park. It was painted from photos taken in July of 2011. Most of the state experienced one of the worst droughts in recent history, and I found it very interesting how the flora nearest the arroyo was green while the majority of the desert plants were barely clinging to life.

The photo of this painting is not very good. I had a very difficult time getting a usable image of this painting because of its' size

Canyon at Black Gap

Oil on panel, 8"x10"

This scene is from Black Gap Wildlife Management area just east of Big Bend National Park.

After being out of work since February I just started a new job this last Monday. For sure a double edge sword. I needed to work but my daily commute has been about 1.5 hours each way leaving me little time to paint during the week. With the shorter days and the sun going down so early, I find it difficult to acclimate to painting at night. Hopefully I can adjust and get more painting in.

"Mountains and Clouds"

Oil on panel, 10"x0"

This is a scene I have repainted a couple times on this canvas panel. It was done from a photo taken out the window of a car I was passenger in as the car was speeding along the highway. The entire foreground was blurred out but the background mountains and clouds were in focus and were my purpose for taking the photo.

"Cactus and Rock"

I found this cactus was growing in the Basin of The Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. I slightly modified the design of the cactus and rocks to create more pleasing shapes.
