Cactus at Linda's Place

Oil on canvas 16"x20"

I wanted to show the progression of this piece, which was started very quickly and loosely. As the painting progressed, I slowed down quite a bit and became much more deliberate with the brushwork. Bad photos but you get the idea. Painted mostly from a reference photo taken at a friends property in Montell, Texas but improvised quite a bit as well.

Cactus

Oil on panel, 6"x8"

Another made up scene, I fought this piece for a while, painting, then scraping then repainting until finally it was at least temporarily in my good graces. So here it is before I scrape it again. Going out to paint outside, that will alleviate the made up torture for a while and replace that with sun, mosquitos and gawkers.

North of San Antonio

Oil on panel, 9"x12"

I used the previously done smaller version of the same titled painting as a study for this piece. It originated as a thumbnail, then a finished 6"x8" early this year and now this 9"x12" version.

"Cactus and Rock"

Oil on panel, 8"x10"

I found this cactus was growing in the Basin of The Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. I slightly modified the design of the cactus and rocks to create more pleasing shapes.

"Rocks and Cactus"

Oil on linen panel, 9"x12"

Another hill country scene typical of the area near Enchanted Rock state park. I will most likely re-shoot this image because of the glare on the top of the photo.

"Llano Cactus"

Oil on linen panel, 8"x10"

I spotted this opuntia growing just south of Llano.
