A Touch of Green on the Arroyo

This is a scene along an arroyo in Big Bend National Park. It was painted from photos taken in July of 2011. Most of the state experienced one of the worst droughts in recent history, and I found it very interesting how the flora nearest the arroyo was green while the majority of the desert plants were barely clinging to life.

The photo of this painting is not very good. I had a very difficult time getting a usable image of this painting because of its' size

This painting continues a tradition I have maintained for a few years now by starting and completing a painting of Big Bend on New Years Day. I painted this pretty quick and it is quite loose so I may make minor adjustments after this layer has dried.

This scene was painted from pictures I took while hiking at Enchanted Rock State Park. I took artistic license with the background and also changed the scene from winter to a spring setting.
