"Cactus" Revised

Oil on panel, 11"x14"

I knew I was going to revise this painting, I wasn't happy with the color in it so I decided to paint right on top of what I had.

And now I have repainted it again. Newest version is on top.

Ahh backlit cactus, very nice. I didn't see your first attempt but this is eye-catching and serene.

Hi David - I like this one alot! I actually like the pre-revised cactus just as much. For me, the problem in both paintings is the large tree/bush on the left- it just takes away or competes with the cactus, which are beautiful and would stand alone great. Sorry to be critical, because I really love your work!

Thanks for comments Martha and Susan. I wondered why I didn't like this piece. Martha, I think you hit the nail on the head. I don't like that tree on the left side. Oddly enough I found an old 5x7 version of this piece that I left the background very light and obscure. That small version worked much better! I always appreciate insightful critique.
